Marie-Anne welcomed the new members of the Council and reminded all members of the Council that they were representing the sport as a whole and not their individual countries or business alliances.
She advised that the Council should be united once a decision had been made.
All members must attend all meetings and if two are missed they will be asked to resign. EAME.
Meetings this year confirmed as 15th March, 2002 starting 9am in Noeux les Mines and 8/9th November, 2002 in Nice with other Councils.
It was to be noted that the timetable in Poland was changed because of the bad weather as opposed to “not good”
With this amendment the minutes of the meeting held in Nice on 9/10th November, 2001 were approved unanimously and duly signed by Marie-Anne and Nicky.
The Council would await further advice from Admin Committee and then discuss further
More and more requests are received for good pictures of Cable Sites and Skiers, to the knowledge of the Cable Council two good CD with pictures exist. It is believed that Friedel Hermann has a CD containing many pictures and the CD from EAME Championships at Havirov last year also contained many good photographs. Please contact the Czech Waterski Federation for the Havirov CD and Friedel Hermann for his CD.

Persoons
Marie-Anne Persoons remains the Cableski Council President and representative to the Admincom.
Nicky Caine remains the Cable Council Secretary
Peter Pearl was to be asked if he was happy to continue looking after Insurance matters on behalf of the Council. (Nicky talked to Peter who would like the Council to consider drawing up an Accident Report form that could be submitted if a serious accident occurs so that the Council are aware of any potential problems)
The only major accident in Germany that has been reported was at Kiefesfelden when the skier tried swimming to the bank and was hit by another skier and was injured. A lawyer was consulted but there is no major problem resulting from this accident.
It is important that there are signs advising that the skiers do so at their own risk. There should always be at least 4 carriers between skiers if they are slaloming.
No accidents were reported in Slovakia or France.
Region EAME members of the World Cableski Council are :
Juergen Pitz as the President
Marie-Anne Persoons as the Secretary
Heidi Pauen as member
Maoz Tal will be the substitute member.
It was hoped that if the competition in Orlando goes ahead it would be possible to hold a World Council meeting there.
Juergen Pitz had talked to Vern Oberg and Sherman Schraft to try and find Council members from the Panamerican Region and would talk to Colin Ellison regarding Region Asia Australasia where it may be possible for somebody from China to be asked if they would be happy to be a member.
Joulia Meyer-Gromyko had been written to and she had agreed to take the position but she had been advised by German Team Captain that she did not need to attend this meeting but she is certainly coming to the Seminar in France.
It was agreed that each country would contact their top skiers and send them information of Seminar being held in Noeux les Mines, France on 16/17th March, 2002.
Marie-Anne would send Council members the Seminar information by e-mail and it would be available on EAME and German web pages.
Marie-Anne would at the beginning of the Seminar ask the attendees their interests so that the Seminar could cover these items and they would be discussed.
It was agreed that Calculators should be taught both the manual system together with Manu Lion’s programme.
Video of the trick event at the World Championships was not at Juergen Pauen’s house so Juergen Pitz would look to see if he had the copy.
It was agreed that we would try and help Joulia as much as possible and if she wished somebody could be with her when she is taking “Skiers Representative” session.
Anne to be contacted to ensure all equipment that was needed for the seminar was available.
It was agreed that all Council members would make their own booking into Hotel Le Vieux Beffroi arriving Thursday night so that the Council meeting could start at 9am on Friday morning.
It was hoped that some of the Site Owners may attend the Seminar.
It was agreed that in the unfortunate situation that a site could not be found to host the Worlds it would not be possible to stage an Europeans as it was a designated “Worlds” year with Europeans only be held in odd numbered years.
Several conversations were taking place with Austria, Germany, Slovakia and United States to see if it would be possible to find a suitable venue for the Worlds.
It was agreed that the end of March would be the deadline for finding a site for the Worlds because if it was left any later many countries would have difficulty arranging funding.
Plans for the new site in Minsk were shown to the Council members and it was hoped that they would soon be holding competitions.
The site in Moscow was also under construction.
It is believed that a Cable Ski site was being built in Norway.
The building of 30 Cable sites in China was believed to be going ahead successfully.
It is believed that there is a possibility of an Indoor Water Ski facility being built in Hungary.
An e-mail had been received from Kuwait which had been replied to and any information or help offered.
Latzo has written an History of Cable Waterski-ing and he will send a copy to Marie-Anne and Nicky for checking. This is a niece piece of histoty and will be very useful in future for promotional purposes if needed to show how the discipline has developed over the years.
The blocked weekend for the Nationals is 27/28 July.
Competitions that were proposed are as follows:
22 June International Jump Langenfeld GER
28/30 June International 4 Event Princes GBR
6/7 July International (Open & Juniors) Kosice SVK
13/14 July International (Open & Juniors) Lublin POL
7/8 September EAME Junior & Dauphins Alfsee-Rieste GER
13/15 September US Open Orlando USA
1 / 2 November Israeli Open (4 event) Tel Aviv ISR
Subsequently Princes have withdrawn their competion and Asten-Ausee in Austria has added an International Slalom Cup on 2/3 rd August, 2002.
Many of the competitions on the Calendar will be 4 event as many sites now wish to run Wakeboard events at the same time as 3 event.
It was discussed that for promotion of the sport of Cable Skiing it should be considered if Wakeboard and 3 event should be looked after together.
It was confirmed that the Cable Wakeboard Worlds had been cancelled in 2002 and it was hoped that the Cable Wakeboard Commission would consider holding Worlds and Europeans on alternative years as there was concern that countries could not afford to send “riders” to two major events every year.
Germany had held an experimental competition in slalom, tricks and jump, last year. This was a very interesting competition and some issues, of where not thought about came up during this competition.
Points that came out if this and are subject of further discussion at the Seminar are :
- It was found that there was a trouble with the speeds if two trick skiers were sent out at the same time as the speeds requested differed.
- There was still discussions going on regarding reducing the number of runs in Slalom to 4 rounds unless the World Record was possible on the 5 round when the skier could continue.
- Short competitions were being considered where there were only 25 skiers allowed. On most sites it was possible to calculate 1 minute per jump.
- It was also discussed that the Final start speed should be the final full pass that all the finalists had achieved.
- The idea of having only one trick pass during the preliminaries and two in the finals is also still under consideration.
Much discussion was held regarding the Sanction Fee for holding the World Championships, which the Council considers to be a big problem and one of the reasons put forward for many sites not being happy to hold this major event.
It needed to be noted that even without this Sanction Fee, the organisation of a major Cableski event was very different from that of a boat site. Where as the boat site can try and receive sponsorship from a Boat Company, the Cable Ski Manufacturers have shown no interest in offering any monetary assistance for their rigs to “pull” major competitions.
The Cable Site Owners are actually already “sponsoring” the competition themselves by agreeing that the tow can be closed to “general public” and used for the competition, many times the owners earn nothing for several days so the homologation and competition itself can take place.
It was known that IWSF needs to earn money so that it possible for the sport as a whole to be run but it was hoped that they would agree that earning a smaller amount of money from Cableski would be better than earning nothing at all which the Council were worried may be the outcome if the Sanction Fee was not reduced. The Council also worried that if the fee was not reduced it may not be possible to find any sites willing to hold the Cableski Worlds, which would mean the decline of the discipline.
Marie-Anne on behalf of the Council welcomed Franz to the meeting and congratulated him for his election as EAME President. She was sure that Franz would be a good team with Sid!!
Franz gave some feedback on why Austria has so little Cableski competitions.
He advised that the Austrian Federation had to apply for funding for major events every 3 years and the monies may not arrive for up to 5 years.
At the moment most of the Cable Sites in Austria had many “riders”.
There was a new owner at Feldkirchen and Graz has a problem with water.
The EAME Wakeboard Championships held last year in Vienna was subject to wind and rain and it was believe that the sponsor has not paid.
Peter Mach from the Cableski Council announced that if there are any competitions to be held in Austria both Czech and Slovakian Federations are happy to help.
It was confirmed that Kuno was now happy with the monies spent on Cable Ski Promotional Video.
Franz was invited to Cableski Seminar being held in March and he advised that he would try and come if possible.
Heidi and Juergen Pauen would compile the World Rankings List and it would be posted on website.
After a discussion to take place at the Seminar it should be considered to put in as a recommendation that the Chief Judge should post any changes made to the course after Familiarisation for the skiers information.
It was requested that any country which held “government” rules that apply to Cable Sites should forward them to Jean-Yves so that he can compile a recommendation that can be used as a guideline.
The Cable budget for 2002 had been agreed as 3000 Euros to cover cost of Seminar conference rooms, Administration, and Development of New Sites
There had been no time after Nice to update website – Cableski.org and Jurgen Pitz was not sure what should be available.
It was agreed that Records, Standings List. Provisional Calendar and Rules should be on the site.
EAME website is run by Phillipe Turchet which still has old information so new pages need to be sent to him and it needs to be checked that there is a link to other sites.
The competition side of Video should be also used on website.
Marie-Anne thanked everybody for attending the meeting and grateful thanks to Latzo for the wine he had provided at the end of the meeting.
Next meeting will be Friday March 15th before the Seminar in Noeux les Mines.
